Welcome to Year 2!

This year, our topics are All Aboard, Fire and Ice, Travelling with Barnaby, Woodland Wonders, Green Fingers and Dungeons and Dragons.

Our P.E. day is Wednesday, so please remember P.E. kits.

Homework will be issued on Fridays to be returned on Wednesdays.

Spellings will be issued on Fridays and children will be tested the following Friday.

To avoid congestion at the beginning and end of the day, the Year 2 children will enter and leave the building through Mrs McGovern's old classroom door, by the outdoor reading area.

This week in English we would have been creating a fact file about Hedgehogs. The children have all read 'The Hodgeheg' By Dick King Smith in class. Your child could carry out their own research on hedgehogs and then create their own fact file. I have attached some examples of previous children's work as well as some information about Hedgehogs.

Our next Maths topic was Time. The steps the children would be taken in class are;

  • O’clock and half past
  • Quarter past and quarter to
  • Telling time to 5 minutes
  • Hours and days
  • Finding durations of time
  • Compare durations of time

I have attached some activities that can be done at home to support children with their learning.

After our Telling the time topic children would then move onto Measurement: Mass, Capacity and Temperature.

The children would be:

  • Comparing mass- using more than, less than, heavier, lighter, equal
  • Measure mass in grams
  • Measure mass in Kilograms
  • Compare volume- using more than, less than, heavier, lighter, equal
  • Mililitres
  • Litres
  • Temperature

This is a really practical unit so children could measuring the mass, capacity and temperature of different objects within the house. Please encourage children to read the scales as this is vital skill for them to develop.

Please also keep on top of the children's timetables- 2x, 5x and 10x. If your child is confident with these move them onto 3 timestable. The children are also new to column addition and subtraction I have attached some works sheets to help carry on their learning.
