This week has been assessment week in school. We have sat practice SATs papers. 1 spelling, 1 SPaG, 2 reading, 1 arithmetic and 1 reasoning and problem solving. The children all tried their best and were no too thrown off sitting an assessment paper.
In Maths we have been learning the time. We have learnt quarter past and quarter to. We have used the practical clocks in school to move the hands to the time given. The children are enjoying learning how to tell the time and regularly tell me or Mrs Robson the time.
In Science this week we have learnt about things that are alive, once alive and never alive. The children were able to sort objects into these three categories and explain why they placed them there.
Our caterpillars are now chrysalises. We are very excited for beautiful butterflies to emerge. Fingers crossed they can wait until we are back at school on Monday!
WEEK 2 - The literature festival
This week we have had a fun filled week doing English. We have completed a lot of different writing and had some great visitors.
On Monday this week we designed and wrote about our very own chocolate room in Charlie and the chocolate factory. We also had a visitor who came in and read us a book about Darlington train station, we even tried on some hats from the museum. On Tuesday we read the book My teachers secret life by Stephen Krensky, the children then write about mine and Mrs Robson's secret life. We then completed an Inky Willis workshop about doodles. We learnt a different way to plan our stories. We then read the Wonder by Faye Hanson, we talked about our own dreams and aspirations and drew a picture and wrote about what we want to be when we grow up. We then made dream catchers. On Wednesday Rappaman came in a showed us some of his poetry. We made a rap about our own names. Mr Garrod then came into class, and taught us a poem about a man with lots of birds in his beard. In the afternoon we wrote in our own words the 3 little pigs. On Thursday, we wrote a class story, we rolled a dice to determine who the characters were, where it was set, what the problem was and how it was solved. We ended up writing a story about Santa and his reindeers and rainbow lady in a jungle. The children had lots of fun being creative. We also read some chapters of The see thru man and the land of pleasant by Richard Davies. We then wrote questions that we are going to give him to answer.
It has been lovely to see all the children be so creative with their writing.
8th- 11th June- Week 1
Welcome back, I hope you all had a lovely half term.
This week in English we have been looking at the original story of Rapunzel. We have completed a story map as well as writing questions that we would like to ask Rapunzel. We then looked at our new book Rapunzel by Bethan Wollvin, we looked at the cover of the story and discussed whether the story would be the same or different.
In Maths we have finished our unit on fractions. We have counted in fractions, this was a little bit tricky but with lots of practice we have managed to count in fractions. We can recognise that a half and two quarters are equivalent and we can find three quarters of a number or pictures.
This week we started our new topic in history. We have been looking at the significant Kings and Queens of England. The children loved learning about all the monarchs. In Science this week we have learnt about MRS GREN and the life processes. We discussed how they would show in animals and plants.
To help us with learning the life cycles of animals. We have a few friends we would like to introduce you to. WE HAVE CATERPILLARS! We are all very excited to see them transform in front of our eyes.
