Summer 2

Week 7: 13.7.20.

Hello, everyone!

Our final week is here - summer is upon us! This has been such an extraordinary year, with unprecedented disruption for everyone. It has been sad not to have our usual learning time in school, but some of you have risen to the challenge of these strange circumstances brilliantly, and I am really proud of all of you.

This week, we have a lighter programme, with our usual maths, and a selection of transition activities. These are reflective tasks for the summer break that will help you prepare for next year.

Enjoy the break - I look forward to seeing you in September!

Take care,

Mr Garrod :-)

Week 6: 6.7.20.

Hello, everyone!

I hope you're all keeping well. Everything you need for this week is included below. For the geography, if you don't have access to a printer, a piece of plain paper can easily be customised for the job. Our home science for the week can be achieved with basic, corner shop ingredients, so hopefully you'll have some fun with that - send on any impressive photos!

Take care, everyone. Get in touch with me right away if you're unsure about anything.

Have fun!

Mr Garrod

Week 5: 29.6.20.

Hello, everyone!

I hope you're keeping well. Thanks to everyone who has been in touch about their reports - great to hear from you all. If you haven't yet been in contact, please let me know how you're getting on: thomas.garrod@waverley.newcastle.sch.uk

For this week, I know you've done some cracking work on our science objective of profiling a major scientist (we looked at Ada Lovelace), so for the last three weeks of term we're going to do some practical home science. This week: dissolving! Let me know what you find out.

Have fun everyone,

Mr Garrod :-)

Week 4: 22.6.20.

Hello, everyone!

Here are your resources for this week. We're cracking on into 'The Ickabog', where things take a tragic twist! Our English is themed around that this week. I am also looking forward to seeing some of your illustration ideas for J.K. Rowling's Ickabog competition - I'll bet you've got some great ideas!

thomas.garrod@waverley.newcastle.sch.uk for anything you want to share.

Hope you're all keeping well. I'm missing our classes!

See you soon, stay safe,

Mr Garrod :-)

Week 3: 15.6.20

Hello, everyone!

Here are your Summer 2, Week 3 resources. The sun has gone in, but our spirits remain high! I hope you've all been enjoying 'The Ickabog' as much as we have in school! A very memorable setting already.

As ever, any questions or fantastic pieces of work to: thomas.garrod@waverley.newcastle.sch.uk

Hope you're all keeping well,

Stay safe, and have fun,

Mr Garrod.

Week 2: 8.6.20

Hello, everyone!

It's an exciting week this week, as we're going to be joining the thousands of excited fans reading J.K. Rowling's new book, 'The Ickabog'! Rowling has made it available online for free, in a great example of lockdown generosity. We'll be reading a chapter each week, and I've got some reading questions and a writing activity to go with it.

Don't worry if you can't easily get online to read it - I'll be providing a transcript of the chapter that you can download or print, which will be viewable on any device. All the resources are below.

We're also moving into our final science unit of the year, which is looking at renowned scientists. We're going to start with an inspirational figure, who is crucial to the history of computing - Ada Lovelace. There's an introductory piece of reading for this week to get us started.

Hope you're all keeping well! As usual, send on any pieces of work, questions or comments to me at thomas.garrod@waverley.newcastle.sch.uk

Take care,

Mr Garrod :-)

Week 1: 1.6.20.

Hello, everyone!

I hope you've been enjoying all the beautiful weather. We've been walking in the woods and playing in the garden - I can't remember having had a finer spring! We've also been doing some home science and practice with letters and sounds. I hope you've all been enjoying your learning too :-)

For this new half-term, we're starting on some new things, with a completely original geography topic, while finishing off others. I recommend the game for this week's geography - I was hooked!

Have a great week,

See you soon,

Mr G :-)

Geography - you have to try this game!
