Summer 1

Friday 27th May - Week 5 - Summer 1

What a wonderful week we have had at Waverley. To celebrate the queen's jubilee, we had a outdoor picnic with all the trimmings. Children and their families were invited to join us on our school yard for a picnic, we even had a surprise visit from a magician. There was ice-creams from the ice cream van and a coffee fix for the adults. Everyone had a lovely afternoon... we may have even seen the queen and her corgi's. I hope you all have a fantastic half term and we will see you on Tuesday 7th June, ready for Summer Term 2. Stay safe everyone.

Friday 13th May - Week 3 - Summer 1

This week Year 1 have re- planted their bean plants into larger pots. The children were able to observe and measure how tall their plant had grown. We looked at how much the roots had grown and discussed why we needed to plant them into larger pots. In Maths this week, we have continued with multiplication and have been making arrays. The children have found this tricky, but we have practised in lots of different practical ways. Next week we will be moving onto making doubles.

In English this week, the children have loved our class text 'A Field Trip to the Moon' by Jeanne Willis.  They used this story to re-write it in their own words. They were so proud of their work, I gave them some time on Thursday to enjoy reading each others work.

Mrs Thomson and 4 Year 3 children came down to Year 1 today, to discuss their plant experiment. The children love to hear about other year groups work and they had lots of questions to ask them. Thank you Year 3!

Friday 6th May - Week 2 - Summer 1

It's good to be back. The children have worked hard this week. We have introduced them to Multiplication, by making equal groups and adding them. The children have applied their knowledge of counting in 2's, 5's and 10's to find the total of the groups. Some children even began to write some Multiplication sentences to describe their groups. Keep up the good work Year 1.
