Year 3 summer term Forest school dates
Monday 26th April 2021
Monday 17th May 2021
Tuesday 8th June 2021
Children need to come to school dressed in old clothes and suitable footwear to spend the morning outdoors. Sessions will go ahead regardless of weather conditions, so if it is hot & sunny, hats and sun cream will be required, or cold & wet, raincoats, hats and gloves.
Today at forest school, year 3 jumped back in time to 1939 and world war 2! They recreated scenes from a field hospital! They used mud, paint & makeup to create wounds and using smoke bombs they recreated a bombing scene! They learnt some basic first aid and how to dress wounds in the field! They also practised working as a team to carry wounded soldiers on stretchers!
Year 3 enjoying hotdogs and popcorn cooked in the fire pit!
This week in art we have been mixing and comparing different shades of blue using powder paint. We used brilliant blue and cyan to create as many different blues as we could, and then created our own patterns.
This week the children have been writing letters. They imagined they were an evacuee in world war 2 and wrote letters home to family in the city.
Our forest school session today was linked to our World War 2 topic. The children experienced some aspects of a soldiers life in WW2. They had a go at marching, building a bomb shelter, taking part in air raid, completing an assault course and trying some foods eaten by soldiers in WW2. They tried a stew cooked on the fire pit, tried bully beef and biscuits.
They also had a treat, toasting marshmallows on an open fire.
Welcome back after Easter. I hope you all ate lots of chocolate and had some fun now we are allowed out a bit more!
This term year 3 will be learning about World War 2 and what life was like for children during the war. Our forest school sessions will be based on world war 2 activities. We will be reading The Tunnel by Pie Corbett, My Secret War Diary by Marcia Williams and Time Train to the Blitz by Sophie Mckenzie. We will use these texts to write letters, diary entries, non-chronological reports and newspaper reports. In science this term we are learning about forces and magnets. In maths we are learning fractions.
In science this week we have been learning about push and pull forces and used arrows to show the direction of the force applied.
This week we have investigated different brushes and brush strokes and applied these skills in a painting.
