HALF TERM
I wish this were an ordinary half term where you were free to visit where ever you choose and play with all your friends. I have attached a list of activities that was published by the National Trust a few years ago. They are all fun things like 'fly a kite' or 'build a den'. Why not have a go at a few?!

We have had an email from Timestable Rockstars explaining that there is new Guinness world record for the the highest score achieved on ‘Times Tables Rock Stars in one minute!".
If you would like to make an Official Attempt, players need to record a video of themselves achieving their highest score in the Studio* and send the video to support@mathscircle.com by 23:59 UK time on 4th June 2020.
This is not one of your weekly tasks. If you would like to take part, I have attached some letters that explains in more detail.

This week there will be a focus on poetry. I have attached a powerpoint that will explain shape poetry. I have also attached some sheets that could be used to make different shape poems. You do not have to stick to the ocean theme. You could do your shape poem about space, animals or transport etc. I have also attached this weeks spelling tasks.
Art
For Art this week I would like you to draw a self portrait, or one of your family members or both. Below is a powerpoint and sheets that can help you with the steps to complete a self portrait. Once you have drawn yourself/family member could you use paint instead of a pencil? Could you create yourself by collage?

This week is Florence Nightingale's 200th birthday! I have attached a powerpoint that will explain who Florence Nightingale was. As well as a reading comprehension and interview question template. Below are also spellings for this week.

As it is Florence Nightingales 200th birthday. I would like you to complete a writing frame about her. Using all the facts you have learnt from your English tasks this week.

Think about Sunny. What does he look like? How does he act? What is his personality like? Is he funny, lonely, mischievous? What does he do in the story?
Can you write a character description for Sunny.
Remember to make your writing better to add adjectives. For example; The elephant was walking - The tall, grey elephant was walking slowly.
Remember capital letters and full stops.
Geography
Can you research the UK and African Flat land and mountains. Can you compare the two places. See if you can find out what grows well? Who lives there and any other interesting facts. Discuss the different climates that you would see in these two countries.
Make a poster comparing the UK and African flat land and mountains. What is the same/similar and what is different?

This week I am asking you to write me a letter about all the different things you have been getting up to. I have put a example letter (from me to you). Feel free to email it to me so I can see what you have been up to. I have also uploaded some tasks for this weeks spellings.
Topic- Science:
This week in Science, i'd like you to look at a life cycle of a plant. You can get creative with this, how would you show a life cycle of a plant. I have attached a ppt about life cycles as well as a work sheet (if you would rather do this).

This is a really practical unit so children could measuring the mass, capacity and temperature of different objects within the house. Please encourage children to read the scales as this is vital skill for them to develop.

Our topic this term would be plants.
In school children would have been given the chance to describe and observe plants.
I have put an flower and tree observation sheet below. Children can observe flowers and trees within their gardens or outside space. With your child you could have a discussion about the different parts of the flowering plants/ trees.
