This week we have researched facts about penguins and then wrote our penguin fact files. In Maths this week we have had a revision week on addition and subtraction. In Art this week we have added black to a colour to make the colour darker. In Geography we presented our posters about Antarctica to Year 1 and told them what we had been learning about. In Science we made cornflour slime. We have been learning about solids, liquids and gases. We played with the slime to notice how it turned into a solid when we played with it then became runny when we let go.
We have new pen pals in Malaysia. A school in Malaysia wrote to us and asked us lots of questions this week we wrote back to them. I am going to scan and email all of our lovely letters so that the children in Malaysia can read our replies.
This week we have been learning all about penguins. We read the Emperors Egg, which taught us lots of facts about what they eat and how emperor penguins look after their egg. We learnt about what they eat and how they feed their chick. We then completed some research using the iPads to find out other interesting facts. In Maths this week we recapped some addition, we have recapped our bonds to 10, 20 and 100.
In Geography this week we created group posters about Antarctica. We are going to present these to Year 1 at the beginning of next week. In computing we went onto Dance Mat Typing. This teaches the children where to place their fingers to type correctly. In Science we looked at solids, liquids and gases and grouped items according to their qualities. In Art we learnt how adding white to a colour makes the colour lighter.
On Monday Mrs Thomson did an assembly for Safe Internet Day. She read us a story and asked us what do we think the characters should do.
This week we had a very exciting week at forest school. We took our houses out to the fire pit at the back of school. We re-enacted the Great Fire of London. The children were the firemen passing buckets of water from the River Thames. We helped Miss Cowling by collecting lots of sticks from around the yard to use as kindling. We then made some bread and cooked it over the fire. We added a little bit of chocolate spread and we thought it was YUMMY! Miss Cowling then treat us to a roasted marshmallow and hot chocolate, that was cooked over the fire, with cream and marshmallows. You can tell from the photos we had a great time.
This week we have finished off our newspaper articles they are FANTASTIC! All the children should be really proud of themselves. In Maths we have had a little recap on place value and addition and subtraction. In Geography this week we were introduced to the North and South Pole and the equator. We were able to use geographical language to describe where countries are located in relation to the equator. In computing we learnt how to make a small simple animation the video below shows you a couple of examples and I am sure you agree they are great. In DT this week we made houses from 1666 when the Great Fire of London started.
Another great week for Year 2. We have had lots of fun.
In Maths we have been learning to divide by sharing, we used lots of practical resources to do this. In English we looked at the features of a newspaper article, planned and then begun to write our own newspaper article on the Great Fire of London. Next week we are going to finish them. We can't wait for you to see our work!
In Science this week we had a lot of fun. We were testing different materials to see which was the most absorbent. We used new science equipment: beakers, funnels and cylinders. We discussed what makes a fair test and found a way to make our own experiment fair. All the children wrote a prediction. We then discussed whether our prediction was correct. The children worked really hard to write up their experiment. I am sure you can see on the photos below how much fun we had!
Homework has been set on seesaw.
Have a lovely weekend!

We have all really been enjoying learning about the Great Fire of London. In Maths this week we have been learning about the multiplication symbol. We have been using repeated addition to help us write a multiplication sentence.
This week in History we learnt about the jobs from 1666 and discussed whether we still did them today. We also started our Ebook on the Great Fire of London. In Science we carried out and experiment using different materials. We found out if we could squash, twist and stretch them.
We all enjoyed the Panto!
Another great week for us!
This week the children have settled in fantastically. We have completed lots of practical activities.
In Maths this week we have been learning about equal groups. Towards the end of the week we were able to use repeated addition to add equal groups. This is going to help us when we start using the multiplication symbol next week. In English we have started a non-fiction unit. We have looked at the features of a non-fiction text as well as completing research on The Great Fire of London. This is also our topic in History this half term. The children enjoyed finding out about what happened and are able to recall many facts. In Science this half term we will be looking at materials. This week we looked at Materials and what they are used for. In RE this week we looked at Sikhism and in Art we got paint out and learnt about different type of brush strokes.
Reminder- Spellings are on Seesaw for this half term next weeks (14.1.22) will be week 2.
