Spring 1

Week beginning 11th February

This week we are developing our reading of real and nonsense words across Phase 3, 4, 5 and beyond. 


Our spellings are the days of the week and the children will need to remember their capital letters.

In Maths we are revisiting place value and will be discussing tens and ones in two digit numbers.

In Geography we will be researching more about China and in RE we will be reading the story of Joseph and his brothers.


Week beginning Feb 4th

Kung hei fat choy!! We have been learning lots of interesting facts about Chinese New Year this week. We made our own dragons and money wallets too.

In computing we had a very important chat about staying safe online for Internet Safety Day. 


In English we have been reading and writing poems beginning with Roald Dahl's The Crocodile.

In Maths we are subtracting within and beyond 20 and we are getting really good at it!

Our RE this week was focused on Noah's Ark and in Science we will be looking for signs of Spring.

Week beginning January 28th

This week we are reading Hairy Maclary From Donaldson's Dairy by Lynley Dodd. We will be writing a retell of the story in our own words and will be looking at rhyming couplets. 


In Maths we will be adding by making 10 and beginning simple subtraction.


We are continuing our work on LS Lowry in History and we will be reading about the Miracles of Jesus in RE.

Week beginning January 21st


This week we are reading Peace at Last by Jill Murphy.



We have been using adjectives to enhance our writing and are trying hard with finger spaces, full stops and capital letters.


In maths we are revisiting number bonds to 10 and are learning our bonds to 20. We have been enjoying these games to help us:


In History we have been looking at the paintings of LS Lowry and have imagined ourselves in the paintings.


In computing we are continuing to log on independently and navigate familiar websites.


Week beginning January 14th

This week is all about The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We have discussed our favourite parts of the story, have written instructions on how to look after a tiger should he come to tea again and have written speech bubbles related to characters and the story.  

In Maths we are counting on by putting the larger number in our head and counting on the smaller number.

We compared toys from the past and present in History and in Science we are looking at Extreme Weather.

Week beginning January 7th

Welcome back! I hope you have all had a happy and relaxing holiday.


This week we have begun our topic of Paws, Claws and Whiskers. We have been reading Six Dinner Sid in English and we have been learning to tell the time with o'clock and half past in Maths.


In history we have looked at transport across the years and in Science we have been recording the week's weather.
