Autumn 1

11- 15th October 2021 - Week 6 


This week in English we have written our very own version of the three little pigs. We changed the characters to a different animals, we had 3 little spiders, snakes, elephants and pandas. Over 3 days we wrote the beginning the middle and the end of the story. The children have loved creating their very own tale. In Maths this week we have been working on our number bonds to 100 and adding and subtracting ones using a number line and a 100 square.


In computing we had an offline lesson. We discussed what makes a computer a computer. We then went around school identifying computers. We then headed back to the classroom and drew computers we had seen. This included ipads, computers, laptops, calculators and beebots. In RE this week we looked at Muslim Imam and the Muslim religion. In Science we looked at living, dead, and never lived. The children were amazed to find out that paper was made from a tree. 


4th October- 8th October - Week 5


This week in English we have been reading 'The three little wolves and the big bad pig' by Eugene Trivizas and Helem Oxenbury. We have discussed and wrote about the similarities and differences between the book and the three little pigs. We have completed a story mountain and a story board in preparation for our writing next week.

In Maths this week we have started our addition and subtraction topic. We have looked at related facts and used part whole models to create 4 different number sentences. We have learnt how to check if a calculation is correct using ten frames. 


In Science this week we learnt about MRS GREN and what this looks like for a plant. We discussed how plants are alive and would complete all 7 life processes. In Computing we all independently logged onto the computers and were able to get ourselves onto cbeebies games. We then completed an offline lesson all about how we can recognise computers, how they store and follow instructions and how they are used to help us. In RE, we designed a flag for our school. It had to include symbols that mean something for them and the local area. 

27th September - 1st October - Week 4 


We have had another lovely week. This week we have had forest school. We had a great morning session with Miss Cowling linked to our science topic, living things and there habitats. We discussed what camouflage meant. We used little pieces of string both dark and bright string and hid them for the other team to find. We then tried to camouflage ourselves in the trees and bushes. Finally we made a bug using natural materials and camouflaged them. 


In English this week we have been learning about the gingerbread man. We made gingerbread men and decorated them. We wrote instructions on how to make the gingerbread men. The children loved this and enjoyed eating them. 

20th - 24th September  Week 3


This week in Maths we have been using tens and ones to add numbers together. We have compared objects and numbers using the more than, less than and equal to symbols. On our Friday statistics Maths lesson we have been interpreting pictograms.

In English this week we wrote the ending to our own version of Little Red Riding Hood. We then created a wanted poster for the wolf. We then moved onto reading Hansel and Gretel. We then create a lost poster for Hansel and Gretel, we described what they were wearing and personality traits. We then described the gingerbread house where the witch lives. This made up all very hungry and ready lunch!

In Geography we looked at global warming and the consequences of the world getting hotter. The children then wrote sentences about the impact. In Science we looked at the 7 life processes, we completed different activities based on them eg. movement- we did yoga and watch a video on how animals move, Growth- we ordered the human life stages. 

In RE, we looked at what makes a good and a bad leader or teacher.


Reminder- Spellings are currently on seesaw, homework will be put up on seesaw in due course.

13th- 17th September 2021- Week 2


This week we have written our own version of Little Red Riding Hood. We have discussed how to set out a story, using the beginning, middle and end. We focused on making sure we had finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. We even added adjectives to make our writing more interesting. 

In Maths this week we have been reading and writing numbers to 100, in numerals and words. We have use a part whole model to split numbers into tens and ones. 

Our unit in science this half term is living things and their habitats. We learnt about the 7 life processes, MRS GREN. We made actions up to help us remember them. We then went into the bushes and looked for animals and habitats. This week in RE we looked at leaders in school and what they do.

In Geography we looked at global warming and greenhouse gases. We discussed what happens to our world and what we can do to help. 



6th - 10th September 2021 - Week 1 


We have had a lovely first week settling into our new routines in Year 2. We have completed some writing, maths, phonics games and activities. We began to learn how to log on and off our computers.
