Week 3 - 21st - 25th September 2020
Well another week is done... The children this week have been great. This week in English we have looked at setting descriptions. We have looked at what makes a good setting description. We planned our very own setting description for our story, The Secret of Black Rock. The children were asked to write their own setting description, using adjectives, some children even used similes! This week we also started Guided reading, children in groups came and read with myself and Mrs Robson, whilst the children waited for their turn they completed reading comprehensions, handwriting and even began learning their spellings for next week.
Maths this week we have been looking at tens and ones and part whole model. The children picked this up really quickly and we were able to complete a part whole model for numbers in the hundreds. We looked at partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and units as well as building them.
In topic this week we have looked at greenhouse gases and what they do to our world. The children were able to discuss how green house gases get trapped and where they come from. In Science we looked at different types of materials and started to discuss what we can make using different types. In RE this week we looked at the prodigal son, we were able to retell the story in our own words and reorder the story. In Art we painted our own pictures using the brush strokes we learnt last week.
Have a great weekend!!
Due to being off school for such a long period of time. Some of the children have forgotten some of the sounds they need. Below are 2 videos for children to watch to help us recap the sounds.
Week 2- 14th- 18th September
This week is assessment week in school. The children have been brilliant they have all tried their hardest. There has been lots of new vocabulary thrown at the children this week and they have coped well. The assessments were done to help us find and identify gaps in what they have missed in year 1. The assessments were in Maths, Reading and SPAG.
In the afternoons this week we have had time to relax after our assessments in the morning. On Monday we went into the gym and played some parachute games. On Tuesday we completed RE work and had a great afternoon break using some PE equipment. On Thursday we looked at different paint brushes and what patterns and marks they could make on a piece of paper. Some of us even
started our very own paintings (Mrs Lynch thought our Art work was brilliant!).
Week 1- 7th-11th September
We have had a great first week in school. All the children have settled well into Year 2 life. In Maths we have started to look at place value. Looking at how many 10s and how many ones are in a number. We have also started to look at how we write numbers 17 - seventeen.
In English we have started to look at 'The secret of black rock' by Joe Todd-Stanton. This week we have looked at the main character Erin and wrote a character description about how she looks and her actions and how we would describe her as a person. The children have used lots of fantastic adjectives to describe her clothing. We have thought of Erin's feeling during different parts of the story.
This week in topic we have started to look at global warming and what we can do to help the world. We discussed what happens in the world because of global warming and small steps that we can help do to help.
Homework and spellings have gone home this week. Spelling tests are on Fridays. Homework is due in on Wednesdays. Reading books will be handed out on Monday.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
