Autumn Term 1 - Week 7 - 23rd October
We have managed to complete so much in the last 7 weeks, have a little look at all of our learning...
Autumn Term 1 - Week 6 - 12.10.20
The children have made so much progress over the last few weeks...
In Maths, we have been comparing groups of objects and numbers to 10 using greater than and less than symbols. The children have really tried hard and are confident with place value to 10 and using a number line.
In English, the children have enjoyed our Traditional Tales topic and have now read 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.
This afternoon the children enjoyed playing 'Heads Up'... asking questions to guess what animal or object they are.
Thank you to all those who sent in the children's reading books on Thursday, I have seen some fab reading progress, thank you for your support.
Autumn Term 1 - Week 4 - 2.10.20
I am so proud of the children this week. They have really worked hard! The children have been completing Maths, Phonics and English lessons on a morning, as we slowly remove the child initiated learning/ play from their morning routine, and the children have taken this in their stride. Well done Year 1.
In Maths this week were counting forwards and backwards to 10 and 20 then saying what is one more/ one less than a given number.
In English this week, our focus story was 'Once upon a Time' the children enjoyed retelling this story and spotting lots of familiar characters appear like Goldilocks, Humpty Dumpty and Little Red Riding Hood. They created a story map and were using their Phonic knowledge to write their names.
In Geography this week we began our 'Castles' topic. The children enjoyed discussing whether they had visited a castle before and learnt the names of some features of a castle like arrow slits, drawbridge, moat and battlements. We discussed why a castle had these features and how it would help stop an enemy attack.
In Science this week, we began our 'Materials' topic. The children loved this. We went on a materials hunt around the classroom, looking for objects and identifying what material it is made from. The children were beginning to be able to identify the material and describe it eg soft, hard, smooth... by the end of the lesson.
The children have all came home today with a Reading book and a Reading Record book. We will be sending out reading books on a Friday, please can they be returned to school on a Thursday.
Enjoy a rest this weekend,
Autumn Term 1 - Week 2 - 18th September
Another fast and busy week in Year 1, the children are really settled now. They are aware of the new routines/ classroom layout and are doing extremely well at being back at school. This week we have covered sorting and counting objects to 10 in Maths. Lots of writing of sentences in English and practising handwriting/ letter formation. They had all the fun in Music on Wednesday with Mrs Robson, using musical instruments and learning how many beats are in their names.... they were still taking about the lesson on Thursday morning. We have had Science and the children were able to explore some Science activities, they are now able to say what they will learn in Science lessons this year. I have managed to read 1 to 1 with all the children and next week I will be sending home reading books on Friday, which is to be read by the following Wednesday and returned to school. Hope you all have a great weekend, see you Monday for Week 3.
