Week beginning October 21st
This week we have lots of fun planned. Most importantly we have our Harvest Festival on Thursday at 9.10am and our Halloween dress-up day on Friday. Children should come to school dressed in their Halloween costumes with sensible shoes and a warm coat.
In literacy this week we are reading Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper.
Cat, Duck and Squirrel live in an old white cabin, with a pumpkin patch in the garden. Every day Cat slices up some pumpkin, Squirrel stirs in some water and Duck tips in some salt to make perfect pumpkin soup... until the day Duck wants to do the stirring...
In Maths we are making groups of objects to 10 and comparing two groups using the language of more, less, fewer and equal.
Our topic of Scrumdiddlyumptious will have us making toast and popcorn and tasting crisps without knowing which flavour they are.
Week beginning October 14th
This week we are beginning our two week topic of Scrumdiddlyumptious. This topic is our introduction to Harvest and food. We will begin by reading Handa's Surprise and then Handa's Hen by Eileen Browne.
Week beginning October 7th
This week we will be reading Prince Cinders and Princess Smartypants by Babette Cole. Both books are a twist on a traditional tale.
In Maths we are continuing to sort objects by choosing our own criteria. We have sorted by colour and size so we will be looking for more unusual ways to sort objects.
In topic work we will be continuing our royal theme with work based around The Queen's Knickers by Nicholas Allan and Don't Chew the Royal Shoe by Kate Leake.
On Thursday we have Road Safety training and on Friday we have Heights and Weights.
Week beginning September 30th
This week we are reading The Adventures of Egg Box Dragon by Richard Adams. We will have lots of dragon related activities to explore.
Week beginning September 23rd
This week we are beginning a new topic of 'A Twist in the Tale' during which we will be reading alternative versions of traditional tales. This week we will be reading Jack and the Incredibly Mean Stalk by Gemma Cary.
In Maths we will be introduced to Numberblocks 9 and 10 and we will be exploring number through a number of practical, fun activities.
To complement this week's story we will be planting seeds and making grass heads.
Week beginning September 16th
This week we will conclude our topic of Mr Men and Little Miss with Mr Lazy, Mr Happy, Mr Rude, Mr Jelly and Mr Worry. All of our Mr Men are linked in to initial sounds and cover a range of PSHCE topics.
In Maths this week we will meet Numberblocks 6,7 and 8. We will be counting, ordering, adding and subtracting in a range of ways.
In Understanding the World we will be making and investigating bubbles.
Week beginning September 9th
This week we are continuing our topic of Mr Men and Little Miss. We will be reading Mr Greedy, Mr Clever, Mr Uppity, Mr Bump and Mr Forgetful and will be linking these to initial sounds. We will also begin our RWI phonic programme which will teach initial sounds alongside handwriting rhymes.
In Maths we will continue our work on numbers to 5 and we will be meeting Numberblocks 4 and 5. We will be counting out objects from a larger group, adding 2 small groups together, saying how many are left and ordering numerals 0-5.
Week beginning September 2nd
What a fantastic start to the year. All of the children are well settled and have been enjoying COOL time (Choosing Our Own Learning) alongside an introduction to Maths and Literacy lessons. We read Mr Messy today and made Mr Messy biscuits using strawberry laces and chocolate drops. We also agreed on our classroom rules of kind hands, listening ears, quiet indoor voices, good sitting and good tidying.
Week beginning July 15th
This was our first week together meeting new friends and settling into our new classroom. We had lots of fun and even swam with sharks!
