Year Two Newsletter

Autumn Second Half Term

Thank you so much for supporting our new Year Two Class. There are some changes to our routines this term.

 

Homework

Children will be asked to complete selected pages in the Year 2 CGP book every week. In addition, they may be asked to complete additional spellings and work linked to Maths or Topic covered in class. This will be identified in their small red homework book. Any additional homework is always welcome.

Homework should be completed and handed in by Thursday at the latest.

 

Reading books

Books should be kept at home and read as often as possible. This year we are aiming to improve reading fluency, stamina and comprehension, so please help and support as much as you can.

Reading books will be changed by the children every Thursday.

* Please sign both books to show that homework and reading has been completed. We welcome any additional comments, as this will help us to assess your child’s understanding and progress. Any problems, please see us as soon as possible.

We will keep both on Thursday so they can be checked and marked. Please ensure homework and books are handed in on time, as they form part of our English lessons. If they are late, they may not get marked.

* New books and homework will be handed out every Friday.

 

Library

Our library session will begin this term on Friday. If children have their book, they can change it for a different one. If not, they will have to wait until the following week.

 

P.E.

Our PE session will be on Wednesday so please ensure that your child’s kit is kept in school and that they have a water bottle with them. Please remember to tie hair back and no jewellery.

 

Our topic will continue to be based around Parks and Woodland. We will be exploring lots of writing genres and will also look at non-fiction books. We will begin reading ‘The Hodgeheg’ by Dick King-Smith.

In Science we will be studying ‘Living Things, Plants and Animals’. In R.E. and PSHCE we will be discussing ‘keeping healthy’ and ‘caring for others’. Our Geography lessons will look at maps and symbols and in History we will talk about The Gunpowder Plot and Remembrance Sunday.

We have lots of exciting events coming up including:

  • Our Christmas play ‘The Bossy King’ on:11th Dec (pm) and 12th Dec (am)

  • A Christmas Craft morning on 18th Dec

  • Our Christmas party on 19th Dec

Christmas Dinner day on Wednesday 20th December.

Week Commencing 13.11.17

     Another busy week. Lots of work this week in Maths about multiplication and all the mathematical questioning and vocabulary that goes with it. In English we are continuing reading 'The Hodgeheg' by Dick King-Smith and writing about the similarities and differences between a fictional hedgehog and a real hedgehog. The story also links in nicely to discussions about road safety. What a fabulous time we all had painting our T.Shirts for Children in Need on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in. Take a look at the photo of us all wearing the fabulous T.Shirts.

Week Commencing 6.11.17

      This week we have begun reading our class novel 'The Hodgeheg' by Dick King-Smith. We have talked about our senses in Science and in English written poems using our senses to describe what we saw, heard, touched, smelt and tasted on Bonfire Night.We have been doing lots of Maths work on place value and comparison. We have been busy counting in multiples too. We also had fun today running the Golden Mile and linking it to our Maths by completing tally charts.

21.9.17   Science Autumn Investigation

We explored the school grounds looking for signs of Autumn.

3.7.17 - What beautiful butterflies we have at Waverley!

The wait is finally over. After several exciting and anxious weeks, our tiny caterpillars have finally emerged from their chrysalides and become beautiful painted lady butterflies. It has been fascinating to watch their transformation before our eyes. What an amazing thing nature is! The children have loved learning about life cycles in our science lessons and can explain in great detail the stages involved.

We said goodbye this morning at break time, and wished our butterflies good luck. Look out for them when you are out and about and wait for the magic to start all over again.

28.6.17 - Caterpillar Countdown

The magic is really starting to happen in our classroom. The caterpillars have now all transformed into chrysalides and we are anxiously awaiting the next step - when our butterflies emerge.

26.6.17  KS1 Trip to Kirkely Hall

What an amazing day we had at Kirkley Hall! There were so many amazing things to see and do, we really need to go back again!

16.6.17 - Special Delivery

What an exciting delivery we have had in school! Our class caterpillars have arrived and they are already growing fast! We can't wait to see how they change over the next few weeks and are looking forward to the day they become beautiful butterflies. It is great to see science and nature up close, watching a life cycle unfold in front of our eyes. Keep watching for updates.

26.5.17

Fitness fun in KS1!

What an exciting week we have had! After a very busy term, with lots of hard work, we all deserved a bit of fun and excitement. Soon Thursday we brought in our scooters and added lots of laps to our golden mile challenge. Most of us managed at least one mile (12 laps on the bottom yard). The sun was shining and it was super hot, so we were all exhausted by the end of the day.

On Friday, Premier Sports came into school and taught us how to play curling. It was brilliant, and some children were really accurate. What fun it was!

I think we are all ready for a well deserved holiday. Your homework is to have fun and enjoy your week off. See you on June 5th, ready for your last 7 weeks in Key Stage 1. frown

23.5.17  Year 2 Owl Sandwiches

What great fun we had today! We designed, made, evaluated and ate some delicious owl sandwiches.

Tomorrow we will be writing the instructions to explain how to make them. You could try to make one at home during the holidays. We would love to see more of your own ideas and designs.

Summer Term 2017

What a fabulous start to the new term we have made! We have been reading 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark', a great chapter book by Jill Tomlinson. We have found out lots of amazing facts about barn owls in both our fiction and non-fiction reading. This has inspired some fantastic fiction and non-fiction writing, including descriptions of Plop the baby barn owl and our own additional chapters for the story, which we will send to Jill Tomlinson - I think she will be extremely impressed.

In art, the children created their own baby barn owls for our super display in class and in Science, they  have been learning about habitats and life cycles of owls, as well as other wild animals. The children have amazed me with their scientific knowledge and use of technical vocabulary to describe their findings.

We are also continuing to observe seasonal changes and are noting signs of Spring moving into Summer around the school grounds. We can't wait to start Forest School with Mr Roberts in a few weeks to learn more (I'll inform you soon on dates). Keep on looking for more signs of Spring and Summer when you are out and about.

As always, many of the children have been extending their learning at home, and I have received lots of extra homework - I love it! Keep up the good work everyone, we have a busy few weeks ahead. nofrown

7.4.17  Happy Easter!

What a busy term we have had! All of the children have worked their socks off and I think they deserve a nice relaxing holiday. Try to get outside and explore our wonderful world. Look for signs of Spring, as we will be learning more about the changes of the seasons next term. Take photographs, draw pictures and write about your adventures. I would love to see what you have been up to. Have a great holiday and see you next termfrown 

24.3.17  More Year 2 fun!

What another busy week we have had in Year 2! We began by learning about another significant figure in British history, William Shakespeare as it is National Shakespeare Week. Mrs Hibberd  taught us about his life and explained why he is still an important figure today. At the end of the week, we used all of the information we learned to write all about him.

On Friday, we celebrated Red Nose Day by wearing our red noses and deeley boppers. What fun we had, even if we did look a bit funny!

On Sunday, it will be Mother's day. We learned about the origins of Mother's Day and how it celebrated around the world. Using our best design and technology skills, we made lovely cards for some of the people who care for us. I hope you like them and have a lovely day on Sunday.

 

 

13.3.17 - Super Scientists!

What a brilliant time we have had during Science Week. We have loved learning more about materials, by carrying out some exciting experiments with our friends including:

  • Sorting Materials - Describing the properties of the materials and sorting them into groups of wood, metal, plastic, paper, cardboard and fabric.
  • Changing Materials - Rolling, twisting and bending plastercine into different shapes and trying to make it float on water. What a challenge that was!
  • Reversible Changes - Melting chocolate in our hands, making predictions and comparisons. How delicious the chocolate tasted at the end!
  • Irreversible changes - Making popcorn and toast, and observing the changes as these food substances are heated.
  • Significant Figures in Science and Medicine - We learned about the important contributions Louis Pasteur, Alexander Fleming, Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole made to Science in the past.

 

Science Week has been such fun. Try carrying out your own experiments at home, to find out more about different materials. Don't forget to check with an adult first.

 

 

10.3.17

In Maths this week, we have been learning lots more about fractions of shapes objects and amounts. We are using our times tables facts to help us the answers:

  • X2 (double) helps to find ÷2 (half)
  • X4 (double and double again) helps to find ÷4 (quarters - half and half again)
  • X10 helps to find ÷10 (tenths)
  • X5 helps us to find ÷5 (fifths)
  • X3 helps us to find ÷3 (thirds)

 

Try practising these at home: Remember fractions are equal parts of a whole.

3.3.17 - It's the Pancake Man!

We enjoyed learning about Shrove Tuesday in RE and loved designing and making our own pancake toppings. Most of them tasted delicious, but some of them were disgusting! 

On World Book Day, we had great fun planning and writing our own version of the story 'The Pancake Man', using different story characters in our own writing. They were brilliant! Well done everyone.

3.3.17 - Pets Homework

I have loved seeing all the fantastic homework the children have completed over the half term holiday. There were some really creative ideas. It looks like great fun was had by all - well done!. Thank you to everyone who helped.

Week ending 17.2.17

What an amazing half term we have had! We have loved meeting lots of different pets and learning about how to take care of them. This week, we met Charlie the Chicken, Oscar the cat, Holly the dog and the cutest little kittens who were only 4 weeks old. We wanted to take all of them home.

 

I would like to thank all of the children for their enthusiasm and hard work this term. If you want to continue learning more about animals, that would be great. Next half term, we will be learning more about different types of animals including those you might find on a farm or in the wild.

 

I hope you have a lovely holiday and enjoy a relaxing time with your family and friends. See you on the 27th February. frown

15.2.17 Fun with Shapes!

This term we have been learning lots more about different shapes. We are learning to recognise the differences between 2D and 3D shapes and talked about their different properties. We sorted them using Venn and Carroll diagrams. We had great fun exploring the school looking for different shapes and we were amazed how many different ones we found. We recorded our findings on a tally chart. You could do the same at home too.

 

With Mr Roberts, we used different 2D shapes to create our own alien creatures and we cut out nets to create our own 3D shape aliens. What a tricky job that was! In pairs, we created shape riddles to challenge our friends. You could try writing one at home to challenge your family and friends.

 

We have loved investigating shapes!

Week beginning 6.2.17

Pets, pets and more pets!

Another week, and more pet visitors in school. On Monday, Oliver the kitten came into class, on Thursday we met Jeffrey the cat and today Jessie the kitten came to say hello. It's been cat crazy! Miss Clarke has loved it, as they all reminded her of her cat Eddie.

Next week, we will begin use all of the knowledge we have gained form our visitors to write our own Non-Fiction books about a pet. You may want to do some extra research at home by searching the Internet and watching factual programmes about pets on the TV and computer - My Pet and Me is a great one on the CBeebies website. Don't forget you can also talk to family and friends who own or have owned the pet of your choice. Look out for any pictures or photographs you may want to use in your book.

3.2.17  More Special Visitors in School

What an amazing week we have had! We have had lots of different pets in class, and we have learned lots about taking care of different pets. I think we all agree it is not an easy job.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Timmy the Russian Dwarf hamster, Gypsy the Lurcher, Walter the Bull Terrier, Timon the Bearded Dragon and Oscar and Merlin the Cocker Spaniels. They were extremely well behaved and we loved meeting them. Also, a big thank you to their owners, for teaching us lots about caring for pets. We are loving our Science topic this term, and are quickly becoming animal experts.

I wonder who will be visiting us next?

30.1.17 - A Special Visitor Comes to School

What an exciting afternoon we have had! Rolo the dog came to visit us in class. The children had written some excellent questions, which they confidently asked in order to find out how to take care of a pet like Rolo. His owners were very knowledgeable, and taught us lots of useful and interesting facts. Rolo was so cute and well-behaved - we all wanted to take him home. We loved having him in class. A huge thank you to Rolo (and his owners). We can't wait for our next visitors.

 

Week Beginning 16.1.17

What clever children we have in Year 2! This week we have been learning about algorithms in our computing lessons with Mrs Hibberd. We are learning how to give and follow instructions, and we are beginning to realise just how important this is, in order to complete a task successfully. Also, we had to program the Bee Bots to follow a given route. We watched to see how successful we were. What a tricky job that was! I think we need lots of practise.

 

In our English lessons, we have been learning about different types of words, including nouns and adjectives. We used our ideas to write descriptions of Six Dinner Sid. Some children made some really adventurous word choices, such as; silky, bright, swishy and razor-sharp. A few children even included similes, such as; as sharp as a knife and as black the night sky. Amazing! I was really proud of everyone's effort and Mrs Leeming was really impressed. I think you will be too. Well done children!

 

Finally, this week, KS1 have introduced our new CPG Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling books for homework> These will hopefully help to support you and your child with the challenging New Curriculum in English. There are notes at the front of the book to explain what we expect each week. What a fantastic first week we have had! The children have all come back full of enthusiasm and ready to learn. To top it all, I am so pleased because we won the Attendance Award this week. What a great start we have had! Keep it up everyone. Let's see if we can win it every week, and the Early Bird Award too!

This term, we are continuing our Times Tables Challenge, and it is clear everyone has been practising over the holiday.

Welcome to Spring term 2017

Happy new year to everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and are now ready for lots of exciting work this term.

Our routines remain the same:

PE will usually be on Thursday afternoon. Please ensure a full PE kit is in school every day, in case this needs to change.

Homework and reading books will be collected in on Thursday. Please make sure they are completed by then. They will be marked and returned on Friday. Any problems, please see me as soon as possible.

Library will also be on Thursday afternoon. Please try to have your book in school so you can change it every week.

 

Our topic this term has a huge science focus, as we will be learning more about animals. We will be sorting, naming and classifying a variety living creatures. We will be learning about different habitats and the important things we need to do to take care of different animals. We will be reading lots of non-fiction books to find out more about different animals as well as reading fiction stories about animals. We will begin by looking at animals which make the best pets and talking about the reasons why. If you have a pet you think would be happy to visit us in school, please see me and we'll arrange a suitable time. I would love to meet them.

If you would like to begin researching our animals' topic, I would love to see what you can find out. If you have any books or information you think would be useful, please bring it in to share with the class. *Don't forget to label it so it can be easily returned.

Welcome to Autumn Term 2016 Miss Clarke's Class

Welcome to another school year! The children are settling in well and are all working hard. They are getting used to all the new routines and systems in Key Stage 1.

 

 

Just a few housekeeping reminders...

PE is on Thursday this term

Please ensure your child has a full kit in school in a named bag. This should include a plain red (or white) T Shirt, black shorts and outdoor PE shoes. Long hair should be tied back and no jewellery is allowed. If earrings cannot be removed, they must be taped up.

Reading Books

Reading books are kept for one week and changed every Thursday. The children choose 2 new books from their given book box. They will be collected in to mark and returned on Friday. Please sign and comment in Reading Record books to help us monitor how they are progressing in reading at home as well as in school. Please aim to read as often as possible with your child, as regular practise will really help with their English development.

 Homework

Homework may be English, Maths or Topic based and should be handed in by Thursday at the latest. It will be collected in to mark and returned on Friday. If you have any difficulties, please comment in the book and/or see me as soon as possible.

Our topic this Autumn Term is Where We Live.

We will be investigating our local area and learning more about the country and city we live in. We will find out more about our home city of Newcastle upon Tyne and we will be sharing our knowledge of local landmarks we might see or have visited in the North East. These include; the Quayside and River Tyne with it's many bridges, the Angel of the North,  the stunning architecture on Grey Street and Grey's Monument, the many beautiful beaches along the North East coastline, the many historical castles and buildings, including the Castle Keep in the centre of the city. It would be wonderful if you could visit some of these places with your child so they have first hand knowledge of some of the amazing places we have on our doorstep. You could take photographs, make a diary and/or scrapbook, Powerpoint etc. to help remember their visits. I would love them to share their experiences with the class. 

 

We will also be learning about our capital city, London. Again, we will be learning about landmarks and places of interest both past and present. These will include: the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Trafalguar Square with Nelson's Column, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament and of course the River Thames.

If you have any photographs, books or anything you think would help support our topic, please bring them into school. As always, please make sure they are named so they can be returned to you. If you have a particular interest in any of these areas, and would like to come in to share your own experiences, please see me.  

Christmas Week 19.12.16

Phew! We've finally made it to Christmas and what another busy week we've had. Our party was brilliant last Friday, with everyone having lots of fun dancing, playing games and eating delicious party food.

We've completed lots of amazing Christmas crafts, including cards, calendars, stockings and our very own reindeer. I think we are now all ready for a nice relaxing holiday.

I would like to say thank you to all the children for an excellent first term in Year 2. We have worked super hard and everyone has made great progress. I look forward to even more hard work and exciting things next term. Thank you for supporting them at home.

 

Can I also say a huge "Thank you!" to everyone for my wonderful Christmas cards and extremely generous gifts. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a kind and thoughtful school. Merry Christmas to you all and see you all in January 2017. smileyfrown

Week beginning 12.12.16

Wow! What an amazing week we have had! I was so proud of all the children in Key Stage 1 for their brilliant performances in our seasonal play 'A Storybook Christmas'. They showed great confidence when performing in front of a large audience and they looked amazing in their costumes. Thank you to all involved. The children loved singing and dancing to the Christmas songs, old and new, and it was great to see the audience joining in too.

Also, we began making our Christmas cards with a rocking robin theme. We hope you like them. We have lots more Christmas crafts to complete before we break up next week. We'd better get busy...!

Week beginning 5.12.16

Phew, what a busy few weeks we have had in the build up to Christmas! We are working really hard practising our Christmas performance 'A Storybook Christmas'. Our dress rehearsal to the whole school went well on Thursday and we loved performing to an audience. Thank you to everyone who has helped to organise our costumes and with learning our words, songs and dances. I'm sure you will be impressed when you see it next week. 

Alsothis week, we have loved reading about the Jolly Postman, by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We have enjoyed learning about the different types of mail he delivers to different story characters and had fun coming up with our own ideas for the story. Who else do you think the Jolly Postman might deliver post to? What might it be? Who might it be from and why? 

Challenge: What kind of mail have you had delivered through your letterbox? Can you make a list or a tally chart? Can you use the data to create your own bar chart or pictogram?

Week beginning 14.11.16

What another busy week we've had! We have been continuing our science topic, learning all about Autumn. We have learned lots more about this subject, using web pages, watching videos, reading Non-Fiction books and factsheets, reading poems and singing songs. We are now in the process of producing our own Non-Fiction books all about Autumn. We can't wait to finish them so we can show everyone what we have found out. I think you will be really impressed!

 

In maths, we have continued to learn more about measuring. We practised using a ruler to measure the length in centimetres (cm). We also practised measuring the capacity of different containers and reading the scales in litres (l) and millilitres (ml). We had great fun challenging each other in the water.

 

Q. Can you practise measuring at home, using centimetres and metres to measure length and litres and millilitres to measure capacity (liquids). Next week, we will be practising measuring mass (weight) using grams and kilograms, so you could practise that too!

 

On Friday, we loved dressing up for Children in Need and had lots of Pudsey fun!  We raised lots of money for the Children in Need charity. Thank you for all of your donations.

 

7.11.16

This week, our school nurse came into school to teach us all about looking after our teeth. We had great fun learning how to brush our teeth properly and what foods are good and bad for our teeth. We loved dressing up and pretending we were at the dentist. Thank you for coming into school Christine.

 

Fact 1

You need to brush your teeth for 2 minutes twice a day, and make sure you clean all of your teeth properly. Also, you should not rinse your mouth out with water afterwards, as this washes away the toothpaste.

 

Fact 2

You should try not to eat too many sweets and sugary foods, as this rots your teeth. Water and milk are best to drink, as milk contains calcium which keeps our teeth strong and healthy.

 

Fact 3

You should visit your dentist twice a year for a check-up.

1.11.16

What a busy start to our new half term we've had!

In history, we have enjoyed learning all about Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot. We couldn't believe he tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London with 36 barrels of gunpowder! In teams, we used non-fiction books and texts to find out facts and watched a fascinating video about bonfire night. This research helped us to write a recount of the main events of the gunpowder plot.

In art, we loved creating firework pictures using brightly coloured pastels on black paper. How amazing do they look!

During our PE lessons we used movement and dance to create our own bonfires and fireworks. What great fun we had! We have also continued with our Golden Mile challenge. We have to use a tally chart to mark off each lap, so we can keep count more easily. It was such a sunny day, we also made angels of the north using our shadows. 

 

Fireman Sam and naughty Norman Price helped us to learn about the dangers of bonfires and fireworks.

For homework this week, I have asked the children to talk about what they have learned in class this week about the gunpowder plot and bonfire night. I would like them to design a poster to help warn others about the dangers of fireworks and bonfires. Make sure the message is clear and stands out. Colour would be great, but don't worry if you don't have any.

20.10.16

We have loved reading stories about Paddington Bear's adventures in London. We know Paddington's favourite food is marmalade sandwiches, so we decided to make some of our own to try them. We had to read the instructions before we made them to make sure we had everything we needed. Next, we followed the instructions to make the sandwiches. As we made the sandwiched, we used our senses to describe what the ingredients looked, smelled, felt and tasted like. It was great fun!!! We used brown bread and white bread, and discussed which we preferred and why.

Finally, we wrote our own set of instructions to explain how to make a marmalade sandwich, just in case Paddington needed some help.

14.10.16 - Golden Mile Maths!

In maths week, we used a tally chart to record how many laps we completed every day in our Golden Mile challenge.

On Friday, we found the total number of laps we had completed in one week. Some of the numbers were really tricky to add up.

11.10.16 Maths Week Measuring - The Angel of the North

We had great fun in maths this week. We made models of the Angel of the North from Lego and Duplo. Then we measured them with rulers and metre sticks to find out which was the tallest. Some of them were taller than us!!!

We took turns to pose as the Angel of the North and used metre sticks to measure our height and our wing span.

7.10.16    Conker Maths!!!

We used a collection of conkers to help us with our maths.

  • We estimated how many there were. (40 altogether)

  • We sorted them into groups of 10 to make it easier to count them.

  • We used them to solve addition and take away problems.

  • We took some of the conkers away and we had to work out how many she took.

3.10.16 - Art in Nature

This week, we have explored the school grounds and created some amazing works of art using nature. I am sure you will be really impressed by our artistic interpretations of local north east landmarks, as well as some super animals!

 

Look out for these landmarks:

  • The Angel of the North
  • The Tyne Bridge
  • ST James' Park
  • The Swing Bridge

 

Q. Can you create your own works of art from nature at home or when you are out and about?

Take some photographs and bring them into school. I would love to see them.

 

4.10.16  R.E - Special Things

In RE we have been talking about things which are special to us. We all brought in special things and talked about the reasons why they mean a lot to us.

Mrs Hibberd brought in a baby book that she has had since her daughter Laura was born.

I brought in a special photograph of my pet cat, Eddie who sadly passed away in the summer. It brought back lots of happy memories for me.

I loved seeing all the things which were special to the children, and hearing why they mean a lot to them.

Our new KS1 topic will look at all aspects of toys. We have started reading books about toys so it seemed a good idea to design and make our own toys.We began by looking at all sorts of toys - old and new.

 

Technology Tom asked us to demonstrate how they worked.

We then went back to class to begin to design and make other toys. Watch this space for the results. We think you will be impressed.
 

Our KS1 parents and carers came into read with their children as we approached the Christmas break.

 

Good to see so many of our parents supporting our pupils in their reading.

Year 2 Forest School

 

 

It is Key Stage 1's turn to attend Forest School with Mr Roberts this term. Our class will be divided in half with Group 1 starting on Friday 18th September for 4 weeks.
Group 2 will start on Friday 16th October. Please check for your letter to tell you which group your child is in.

It is important that they wear old, warm clothing as they often get a bit messy! Make sure they have their school uniform with them, so they can get changed when they return at lunchtime.

If you haven't signed and returned the permission slip, please do so asap as we will not be able to take children without it. If you did not receive a letter or have lost it, please see me.

P.E.


We usually have P.E. on Wednesday morning. However, there may also be additional P.E. sessions on Thursday and Friday, so please ensure your child has their kit in school at all times. It can be taken home at the end of the week or end of each half term. The kit should consist of shorts, a plain T. shirt (no buttons), preferably the new Waverley red one. Also outdoor P.E shoes and socks.  
Please remember that for safety reasons long hair should be tied back and jewellery should not be worn.
Ear-rings should be taped up if they cannot be removed.

Mrs Marshall will be working in our school to give pupils some specialist PE sessions. All classes will benefit from this provision. She will work with our class every other Wednesday for the Autumn Term.

 

 

Homework and Reading Books
Reading books and homework will be collected on Wednesday. They will be marked and returned on Thursday. Children choose two books from their book box and should read at least one of them during the week (both, if possible). Please try to read regularly/every night to build on word recognition, fluency and expression. The books should be grouped according to your child's reading ability, although there is a range in each box. Their reading is assessed regularly and they will be moved onto the next book box when the teacher feels they are ready . If there are any questions, please ask.

Our library session is on Wednesday afternoon. As the children can choose from a wide range of Fiction and Non-Fiction books, they may need more support when reading them at home.
